Is the answer more anti-depressents for small children?
Little timmy wakes up groggy, rubs his little eyes and goes downstairs for his breakfast. Next to his food lay two pills. A multi-vitamine, and a 500mg pill of prozac.
Why do we feel we need to give these kids mind altering drugs so they act right? A little more time with the kids would solve most of the problems they have to begin with. Or maybe the drugs give those kids a chance to do better in life. Maybe they are needed.

It depends on the child. There are some children that really need the antidepressants, but I think in most cases, it's the parents trying to get a pill to do their job. It's symbolic of our society today...take a pill and it will all go away. Parents assume that they did nothing wrong...it's all with the child. I think the reason so many children are depressed is because the parents just don't spend enough time with them.

I agree completely with Rabble Rouser.
I worked with a lady who had 5 kids and every last one of them was on some kind of drug to calm them down. You can not tell me every one of those children needed those pills. Doctors are so quick to write out a prescription for it now days its crazy. I think there are other means of intervention, like spending quality time with your children, that you can try before popping them pills.
Another great topic Caffeine! Youre starting to worry me.

I know people who will take pills for anything!
Stellar is right, it is an easy way out for doctors to just prescribe some medication.
I wouldn't let my kids take pills for anything unless it was absolutely neccessary!

I think that way too much of normal childhood activity gets diagnosed as a medical problem these days.. 'my kid is hyper, loud and doesn't listen' Yeah no kidding, it's called being a kid. Better drug them up.
