What? You guys missed it! The restaurant was full of people waiting to kill Tony, and when the bullet comes, you don't even hear it. I was vacillating between an "artistic" assassination of the series, with the viewers taking the bullet, so to speak, or if Tony actually took one, and I believe now that Tony took one, right behind the ear. It wasn't your imagination working, the whole series was Tony's world, and his lights got shut off.

Awesome ending, plain and simple.

The guy at the bar, who went to the bathroom, was Phil's nephew. The trucker was the brother of the guy that Chris and his junkie friend killed in an earlier season. I missed it on the episode, but i heard that there was also a hit team that had missed Tony in an earlier season's attempt on his life as well. The boy scouts were the same ones who were there when Bobby got killed.

Yeah, Tony took one, at least, maybe two or three.

Would oyu have rather watched him get shot, then cut to credits? How predictable that would have been.

You are surmising that is what happened. You don't KNOW that is what happened. Trust me, I can appreciate nuance as well as the next guy, but it was just lame. The addition of the report of a single gunshot simultaneous with the screen going blank would have been a far more effective and satisfying gimmick. Beyond that, the whole episode was very disjointed, with almost inexplicable cuts from one scene to the next. I think that I am not alone if feeling that what was served up as the dessert portion of what has been a sumptuous feast proved to be little more than a stale Twinkie.

The thing was filmed at quite different times too.
At the wake dinner, Paulie's hair is entirely white, his "wings" are gone.
Then later when he finally accepts the captain position in front of Satriale's, he's back to darker hair with the white "wings."

And if your notion is correct about all those guys who would want Tony dead, expecting everyone to recognize every tertiary character in the series is stupidity or arrogance on the part of the producers.

Beyond that, the entrance of the 'hitters' was about as subtle as a hand grenade in an oatmeal barrel. I would say if the audience picked up on it, Tony, who certainly is aware of the target-shaped birthmark on his forehead, sure as hell would have picked up on it. At best it was an insult to the intelligence of the audience, at worst it was an utterly failed attempt to be edgy.

But that's the thing, Trench, you don't hear the shot that takes you. Whether Tony took one or not, that ending has the viewers taking one for sure. It isn't satisfiying, but it's fitting. It hits you unexpectedly, you don't hear the shot, and it just ends, no fades, no music.

considering the split responses of the audience, I'd say that it was pretty successful, actually.

Actually, it just means that you are a failure of biblical proportions, like the the jamboree of jamooks that that found it even remotely worthy of what was a groundbreaking series.

this thread pretty much cements the fact that rokkr and troll aren't nearly as clever as they like to believe.

Your failure is chiseled in granite, ice boy. I highly doubt you should judge either me nor the decaying relic of a man that is Rokkr.

That's fine. Being more clever than you is acceptable.

Dont think he was 'shot' in the hand. More a case of, no matter what he does for the rest of his life he will always be looking over his shoulder. Meadow, could be argued, was one her was to say shes expecting a baby. Rather than Tony being clipped, and the Sopranos losing a family member, we - the viewer - got clipped.

All those people that are meant to be characters from previous episodes? They are not those characters. Just red herrings.

Soprano's no more for me!

After that awful last episode of the final season, I never want to watch that show ever again. What a disappointment!
