Hey Aydin (& any other non-drinkers)

Has anyone drank the non-alcoholic beer to help in the quest of being dry? I'm at a family get together and they drink like, well, they drink like I used to so I bought n/a beer so I could kinda fit in without getting bombed. I worked for me, I felt like I was just another good ol' boy with a brew in my hand.

Questions or comments?

I know my father has ginger ale or a soda with a lime when he is out with customers, I think for sort of the same reasons. He hasn't had a drink in probably 35 years.

You should change your behavior as much as possible, rather than attempting to approximate your old behavior but without the alcohol.

I don't walk past bars I used to hang out in, even though they're between my house and the subway.

I totally forgot, yesterday was two months without a drink for me.
Now that I've proven that I can do it, I should totally celebrate by having a drink.

I do the same thing when home alone, however the holiday weekend and being with my lush family fills me with the need to feel like I'm drinking. Last time I was with the family drank soda and got fucking wired on the caffine so n/a brew is a happy mediun insofar. I don't know, I'm just trying to deal the best I can and thought I'd ask for input. When the weekend is over I'll lay off the n/a beer because I'd don't need the crutch when by myself.

I agree, crika! Whenever I hang out with my old dopin buddies, I always slam a little saline solution in my arm just to fit in and feel comfortable.

if you've only been sober a short time, and your family is full of drunks, and you don't HAVE to be around them, perhaps it's best to avoid them for at least a little while until you have some sort of foundation to your sobriety.

However, seeing as how you're going it alone without any sort of structure to your abstinence, who am I to gainsay your methods?

Crika, just drink soda, for fucks sake. Or better yet, drink a bottled water. If your friends and family are going to discriminate against you for not having a beer in your hands, are you really sure that's the type of people you want to be hanging around anyway?

i full agree with what Aydin said above. drinking non-alcoholic beer is NOT going to help you want to quit, it's just going to make you think about how great it feels to be drinking beer.

that's called a blackout, seek help.

But really, those NA beers always gave a headache after 17 or 18.
