Natural sleep cycles

Something I'm trying to get into. Tired of alarm clocks. I can see this as difficult, considering the city I live in and the age I am. But I really don't like going out and getting pissassdrunk on the weekends, so it shouldn't be horribly difficult.

This morning I woke at 6:15am.

A large portion of you probably know I live a relatively healthy lifestyle. Sleep is the single thing that I need to improve, as I haven't been getting as much as I need in the last few years. I imagine achieving a functional sleep cycle that leaves me refreshed will better help my overall health than some of my food and exercise regiments.

We'll see...

I read somewhere that when people are allowed to follow their own natural (circadian) rhythms, that what tends to be a "natural" day usually evens out to be about 25 hours. I know could certainly use an extra hour per day.

Speaking of natural rhythms... There is also a big push for school days to be started later in the day, because research is showing that adolescents' brains are not functioning at full potential until about 3.5 to 4 hours after they wake up. Schools that have tried this have typically had a significant increase in the academic success of their students.

Because that would mean that I (and all the other parents) would have to be out of bed before 4am and that ain't happening

I get up between 3:00-4:00 every morning to study. I don't use an alarm clock. I just think about when i want to wake up right before I crash.
I finished my final spanish class yesterday, and I slept in until 6:30 this morning. It was really nice.

I also tend to wake up at the time that I wanted to wake up, more or less. If I set an alarm clock, I almost invariably awake just before it goes off (unless it was set relatively late, in which case I'll wake up when I'm done with sleeping).

I would far prefer the work day to start at 6 or 7am and there's no way I'd be better off (or would have been better off at school) waiting 4 hours after waking up before I started thinking. I'd rather do all my thinking early as possible then have whatever meetings I need to attend later in the day*. Fucking meetings.

*Also, I hate meetings that are scheduled for the morning. It's wasting valuable thinking time and they also go on for longer because people have the whole day stretching out ahead of them and don't have the incentive to end the meeting; put the meeting between them and finishing for the day and that's an incentive to stop the damn thing sprawling on and on.

Having worked swing shift for a while now I don't think it's such a bad idea to start school later. Wake up at one, be at work by three, home by whenever. It leaves me time to get things done before and after work and when I get to work I'm not feeling like hammered ass because I had to wake up to an alarm clock. I also get much better sleep than I do on days.

I use my computer to wake me up at 5 in the morning.
5:00 am ~ I wake up,shower,dress
5:30 am ~ I wake up my client, shower him, shave, dress him, feed him and sometimes I breakfast then brush his teeth then mine
6:15 am ~ Were walking to the bus stop that comes at 6:40 am. We usually make it there with 10 minutes to spare.
My whole work week is a schedule actually.

I tried this once before with great success. I have trouble going to sleep before 1 am, and require about 8-9 hours for optimal fubar.

I have a fairly lenient arrival time as long as my work is getting done, so I started going to bed at 1 and waking up whenever I was ready, usually 9 am.

My productivity increased substantially, I lost weight, and my overall outlook was much improved.

These days, I sleep about 5 hours, wake up to an alarm clock, and eat ice cream sandwiches like they are mother's milk.

I have noticed a happier outlook on things since sleeping 8 hours a night for the last 10 days. Sleep really is important (duh!), and I'm kicking myself for not getting enough of it the last few years.
