What Are You Into Right Now?
Most of the music I listen to a lot now is stuff I was hepped to in some fashion or another through either this site or a few others, and mostly just by posting what we were listening to right now, or people on AIM exchanging songs with me (where have you gone, Buddha's Penis! and raginghobo!). The stuff I got hepped to then lead in a lot of musical directions where I found a great load of cool music. Most of the stuff would probably be passe by now, since I haven't been checking in much, and the guys I talked music with most frequently don't seem to post much. But there have to still be some decently intelligence eclectic music-snobs in their 20s (or older, unless their taste in music sucks) laying around here who, on any given week, are listening to this band, and might want to share. Or, one of their all-time favorite singers that she never hears mentions. Or just that music act you love busting out for people, not just to fuck with them but because you know they'll want to hate it but really they'll like it, they'll start buying their albums and going to their shows. Or the groups that, when they come into town, you have to drag people to go see them because you'd almost feel bad if they missed their chance. That sort of thing. Implicit in the question in the thread title is another question: and why? Why should anybody care? Or, put that another way: what do they bring to you that you need?
So tell me, what are you into right now?

What kind of music is in your stereo right now?
You probably don't own a stereo, so whats would you have on your #1 spin mixCD.

Great in what way? I know a bit about Grant Green--a guitarist, right? and Lee Morgan sounds familiar but I think I have him mixed up with an old time blues promoter of some sort. Anyway, what's cool about them?

it's the feeling, see. they've got that vibe. like when you're sitting on a hot summer day, drinking your gin tonic and you just feel good for no apparent reason. it's laid back and cool and puts a big silly grin on your face.
try morgan's 'search for the new land' & 'sidewinder' and green's 'it ain't necessarily so'.

everything ranging from acumen to amon tobin to wim mertens
i know its a lame answer but i listen to pretty much everything, but rarely all in the same period of time.
i have a tendency to focus on one band/singer at a time and listen to nothing else. a few years ago i didn't listen to anything other than apocalytica for 2 weeks, this weekend i havne't listen to anything other than polysics and kate havnevik.

the only people that like jazz are the musicians themselves because they have deluded themselves thinking that what they are playing is good because no one had the balls to tell them to fuck off

Most of the stuff I post in the listening thread of late is new music. I've recommended stuff for you, but without any feedback, I've stopped bothering.

I'm listening to contemporary classical at the moment. I don't care who it is or who it's from. All I know is that right now it gives me peace.

One day you might be able to post something not so predictable.
Nah, I doubt you're capable.

Rodrigo y Gabriela - This duo originally came from a Mexican heavy metal band that never released an album. Together they embrace their love for metal and play only acoustic Spanish guitar. I'd recommend their self-titled album over "Re-Foc."
Battles - The critics seem to be getting a hard-on for these boys. I'd describe them as an electronic post-rock band, and that's probably still a stretch. Give them a few listens, it's not something that grabbed me on my first listen. I'd recommend either their EPs or their only LP, "Mirrored," I like them all a lot.
Beirut - They sound more like an Eastern European folk band than anything, with vocals that remind me of the 1940's. "Gulag Orkestar" is a fantastic album, IMHO, and you should definitely check it out.
And I've been listening to MBV lately. Which is not new. At all.

Black Keys
Neutral Milk Hotel
the new Chris Robinson
lots of Ryan Adams
an old live recording of Genesis with Peter Gabriel
Rustichelli & Bordini - Opera Prima
All those and that 40 episode history of Britain based on Churchill's writing are what I've had on my ipod the last few weeks, with some other stuff thrown in

I've been listening to a lot of IZ lately. Other than Somewhere Out There\Wonderful World it's all very Hawaiian, but it's calming.
Also Bob Marley, Edguy, Art Blakey, and Big Audio Dynamite.
I'm not a fan of most new music as it isn't very musical. They just strum a chord or repeat lyrics over and over and over and over and over and over.
And BAD isn't necessarily musical, but one needs some vices.
