digital cameras
i've been meaning to get one for a while but had no idea what to look at when choosing. i've been reading about it for a while but have since come to conclusion that reviews will only get me so far. what i need is a camera that costs up to 300eur (i'll pay extra for memory) and makes reasonably good photos. also, it should be very small. the smaller the better really.
i've been looking at Canon Digital IXUS 50 (280eur) and Casio EXILIM EX-S500 (310eur). at the moment i'm leaning towards the canon camera since they seem to have better image quality (and i associate casio with cheap synths).
does anyone here have one of these? if not what kind do you have and what would you recommend?

Strange. I have a kodak cx7300, use it a lot and have not experienced that problem, LF. I took a lot of shots from an auto moving at 70 mph or more on my road trip earlier this year, had no problems with it at all.

When I can keep my hands still it's just fine. Sometimes though when I take a pic of my guys at work it's blurred. I think it's because I'm overly nervous when I shoot my guys cause I have to constantly see what the other guys are doing. Then it only happens when I'm walking backwards.
That casio though says it has that Anti Shake DSP whatever.

The IXUS is nice, if you just want a simple compact with one or two advanced features(ie. extended exposure modes). I'm not sure if they've fixed the quality issue with the 5MP CCD(certain ISO settings produced more artifacts than the 4MP version). The Powershot S2 is also nice(the IS works fairly well).

I have the S1 and its a decent camera. If the S2 used CF, I'd wish I had the S2 though.

rather than start another thread i thought i would tag onto this one.
Because i will be using it a lot on building sites i don't want to spend a great deal on a camera, due to the high risk of it being dropped, smashed,, soaked and generally broken i am trying to put a limit on the price Ł100 - 125ish i think i can get my hands on...cheaper is fine
any ideas please?

My Kodak cx7300 is a couple of years old now, but continues to be very reliable and provide good quality pics. I think it was an excellent buy, and with the mem card I have in it now it will take over 900 pictures without running out of space.

I bought myself a Nikon Coolpix L1 for xmas. Picked it up for $125 usd at Circuit City. 6.2 mp, 5X zoom lens. Crisp pics for a great price. I also own an Easyshare I got about 3 years ago and my first digi, an HP photosmart. g or other that is now mothballed. The Nikon is by far the best of the three. But if you wait a few months it'll probably be much cheaper.

so what were you taking that photo with....
Joking aside, does it have the date and time on the pictures, or that option?
It's not important, it would just help a lot with damage reports and people trying to shaft me in general...i.e. It wasn't me, it could have happened anytime?
Yes i know i should have asked before, and yes i know i want a lot for my money...

[sarcasm] Once upon a time people actually learned to load film set f/stops and focus instead of having a gizmo do it for them [/sarcasm]
(ok thats me being bitchy about that kind of post in my geocaching thread)

It has a time and date option and movie too but no sound. The no sound is the only thing that makes me sad.
I took that pic with the same camera I'm holding. I turned off the flash and[spoiler] I used a mirror!

The Fuji F20/F30/F31 series has great low light capabilities and a small physical footprint. The lower numbers in that series can be had for pretty cheap too, I think, ranging from $150-$300.
