They are still doing that shit? I'm amazed. The first time I was ever exposed to the idiocy of Alaskan alcohol regulation I could not believe people would tolerate such intrusive insanity - yet here it is 30+ years later and it is still that way?
I knew a russian family on Kodiak that had been bootlegging quite openly for 3 generations. I wonder if they still do?

Yes, bootlegging is very common around here. In 2003, a tenured economics professor at the University of Alaska was arrested for shipping 60 bottles (750ml each) of whiskey to Barrow. Most people were shocked because he was such an upstanding member of society. But the guy was an economics professor. The cost of a 750ml bottle of R&R whiskey in Fairbanks is $14. Each bottle can sell for as much as $150 or more once it gets there. You don't even have to pass high school math to figure that one out.

I used to know someone who lived in Alaska, he moved to Canada after that, and now I hear he's raring pigs or fish (whichever) in the US. Anyways, I don't remember him talking about liquor at all, but he sure was heavy on pot...so how illegal is that there?
Weed is tolerated quite a bit in the state in general. 1oz is legal in your home for personal use. Good stuff up here too. Best I ever had!
LF I think the number is more like 7 or 8 to 1. The vast majority are here for work, or stationed here by the military. Took me 25 years to find a nice, local boy.
