2nd day :
thinking back i still see your face and how the lights were flowing over it that night. you had your eyes on the road ahead and we were both lost in thoughts. i pretended to be sleeping while i watched you. i saw how your hand reached towards the stereo and how you hesitated and didn't turn it on. for a moment you looked at me and i took your hand. you left the highway because you were freezing and we spent the night close to each other.
we woke up , both sore and grumpy and the first few kilometers until the heating kicked in were a constant shivering and cursing. you were telling me about the dream you had in the few hours sleep. i was smiling because me and my "bad" sides weren't the origin for it again. i could have started talking about dreams but instead i decided to just listen and agree. you already knew my arguments and we had settled to just differ on some points.
an early spring morning soon to be followed by one of the first warm days of the year. we were on that empty highway for about an hour until we decided to take the small roads. one of the last things i grabbed before we left was a map book and now i saw that there were tons of information about the regions we were driving through. your face when i told you to take the next left because i wanted to see a Vikings grave. it wasn't the best choice i admit. after walking around a bit being amazed how unspectacular a dead Viking is , i couldn't help but burst out laughing.
you had a better hand, an old military steel tower built during the first world war. neatly kept intact because of its beautiful architecture it survived the times. some wooden tables and banks around it seemed to have been standing there for hundreds of years . left alone aside the road , only disturbed occasionally to be painted. from up there the view was breathtaking.
"look how the highway cuts the landscape in two" you said. i couldn't help but grin and answer "that's exactly what your mother would have said".
you caught me downstairs, tore me down in the grass and kissed me breathless. "unbelievable" someone screamed. we laughed while we ran to the car. away from that middle class family on historic excursion we arrived somewhere else than we had expected. |
