Man do I feel you,Jon. It seems I can't work in the field too due to my host home. But I still have him.
I have a friend that's going thru with the same shit you are;she hasn't payed her mortage in 4 months. She's just waiting to get kicked out.
So you can't work with people anymore? Maybe try something that doesn't involve people.
Do you like to drive?
Over the road maybe?
You're still young.
Maybe with the help with your mom and maybe a school loan, you can go to truck driving school.
So what if you have to depend on her for a while.
That's what she's there for.
FUCK if I didn't have my host home person that would be EXACTLY what I would be doing.
If your car isn't too bad, pizza delivery isn't all too bad either.
Just expect to rack up some serious miles.
But 15 dollars an hour combined with tips and commision isn't all that bad. And they pay for your gas too.
Good Luck, man, and keep your chin up.
Here's what I see in your future:
Driving over the road looking for tornadoes while relaying over the CB to other truckers and making friends at the truck stops.
Find your new calling and go there.
I find that in life things are just stepping stones.
That chapter in your life ended, and it's time to make a new chapter.
I need to be making a new chapter too. Just waiting on funds.
Oh and that restarant violated an equal opportinity law. It's ILLEGAL to force someone to work the hours you stated. One call and they get fined BIG. Your work hours on any schedule you may have on you is proof.
Just saying if you want to make their day.

I have a habit of falling asleep behind the wheel, and I can't drive to Marysville, KS (30 miles away roughly) without getting drowsy. Truck driving probably isn't a safe job for me.

My mother is disabled and broke. No help there.

What fucking world do you live in where delivery drivers make $15/hour? The best a delivery driver gets paid here is just barely over min. wage and pays for his gas out of pocket with no compensation from the employer or drives a company delivery car (Pizza Slut).

They didn't violate any Nebraska labor laws (or federal) that I know of. I volunteered to cover a shift and then came in for my own. The only part I took issue with was the mandatory cleaning shit which was total bullshit. I should have stood my ground on the issue but didn't. I got paid for my time, and the contract I signed defined overtime as anything over 40 hours per week but not over 8 hours per day. I think it's a pretty scummy way to define OT, but employers aren't concerned about what benefits their employees.

I did Dominoes and Pizza Hut for a few years and supported my family that way. My car racked up some serious miles but here's how I made my 15 dollars. And this was a good 10 years ago.
Mininum wage at the time $3.32/hour
Commision .50 a pizza I did 100 pizzas a shift easy on a good night
50 bucks divided by 8 hours $6.00/hour
Tips. I averaged 2.00 a customer
at around 6 customers per hour $12.00/hour
Gas payed by mileage at set rate depending on price of gas. This is reimbursement so this don't count.
So grand total is $21.32 an hour.
Remember too I HUSTLED at this job. I didn't speed but I KNEW the area all in my head. I didn't need no map,and I could tell you right there if an adress is phony, Back then we had a 30 minute guarantee or it was free so people would pull that address scam on us. I also made friends with managers so they would hit me with the big 10 runs at a time.
Now that above is a good hour. Then when it slows down,it averages out.
And minimum wage is what now? 7 or 8 an hour?
You can make good here. It's just bad with the car miles.

What I missed about that job is that every night I had at least 30 bucks in tips in my pocket. On the weekends at least 50 bucks. Never less. Often more. Then we had bill jars. I would put money in each jar and when the bill was due I made money orders and payed them by mail.
This was before I had internet.
Yes. I payed bills with my tip money. So people that order pizza. Tip them. They need it.

Federal minimum wage is currently $5.85/hr. On July 24th of this year it will increase to $6.55/hr and then will stop at $7.25/hr a year after that. Nebraska uses the federal minimum wage as its basis for the state minimum wage. Colorado has set their minimum wage at $7.02/hr and doesn't have to change until July 24th, 2009.
I did the delivery guy thing back when I worked for Valentino's in high school. My brother and his fiance both work there and the delivery driver gig hasn't changed at all (for the better anyway). Tips are worse than ever, gas prices are outrageous, and you still don't get a dime of compensation from the company. There also isn't a huge market here, so deliveries can often times be few and far between. Some nights you might be swamped with delivery orders, and some nights you spend with a finger in your nose.
I've always tipped my delivery driver unless I really couldn't afford to because I know how shit the job can be.
