To those who smoke weed and are parents...

If you were to catch your child smoking how would you react?? Would you punish them, or understand that they have grown up seeing that all their lives...

I ask this because my mom has smoked since as far back as I can remember, and for some reason I have always known what it was. The only problem is, if she ever caught me smoking my world would end. I was just wondering what you would do...

My mother knows I smoke weed, and I've known that she has done various drugs most of her life, its not really talked about very much between us... I smoke weed with her sometimes

I have wondered on more than one occasion how parents who use drugs (including alcohol, which is far worse than marijuana) can expect to raise healthy, well-adjusted, productive children. It seems completely illogical that it would be possible for substance abusive individuals to manage to keep their own shit together long enough to raise kids at all.

But it happens. I have witnessed it with my own eyes. I have seen alcoholics and potheads raise exceptional children (ironically, none of those exceptional children egage in pharmacological experimentation themselves) just as often as I have seen allegedly "functional" parents fuck it up and raise potheads and alcoholics.

It then stands to reason that in many cases, what the parents tell the children doesn't really matter...I have seen productive potheads succeed and "normal" people fail...I'm not going to lay the blame on anyone, because I don't have children of my own and I have been clean and sober for over ten years.

I too am interested in what a pothead will say about this. The example set by a parent who is hypocritical would seem to me to be far more damaging than the example of a parent who can't cope with reality without abusing illegal substances: laws change; someday weed will likely be perfectly legal and acceptable while hypocrisy will still be abhorrent to any rational individual.

my kids are six and two.
i dont know how ill react because im not there yet. i dont want my kids to know i smoke pot. i plan on keeping that part of my grown up life, just like what kind of sexual positions i favor, and the fact that im good at giving head. your kids dont have to know everything about you.

Its a good point Chelle, although I think kids tend to notice things more than you realise. They prolly wouldn't find out how good you are at giving head though

i know kids notice things, but i only smoke pot when my kids are asleep, or not around.
besides, by the time they are older, i might not smoke anymore.
or if im REALLY lucky, it will be legal

children are far more perceptive than you think. they'll know that you're smoking pot by around 10.

i'm sure my dad thinks i don't know he smokes, wears women's clothing and masturbates to gay porn. i'm also fairly sure my mom doesn't think i know she likes it up the ass. silly them.

point being, you won't be able to hide it from the kiddies for long. you'll have to explain it sooner or later. and for the lot of you who enjoy tobacco rpoducts, or drink in excess, you're going to have to remember that you do it yourself when you tell your kids not to. and i hope you feel really bad about it.

my mom smokes... she told me when i was sixteen...

now its open.. i smoke once in a while (rare) and i lend her my weed when im not using it....

i so wish she didnt smoke.........

I smoke myself and my mum knows she even knows when i do class a's.

She's never done anything and i respect that.

My outlook on life is that i could die at anytime because of my epilepsy.

I'm gonna try things and to things how i want to do them. Not how people tell me to do them.

I have friends who are serious potheads and they lead seriously good and productive lives.

I feel that in britain that we need to legalise (or at least de-criminilaze)weed as there are so many benifits of this drug over others such as alchohol,

Anyway this is straying from where i started so i'm gonna end now.

i don't really think that the intent was to call potheads useless, simply to pose the parenting question. i know lots of potheads (and i'm going to go ahead and include myself on this one) who are more productive and intelligent than people who don't smoke. i know a guy who smoked every weekend (without fail) of his highschool career and then went on to recieve credit as valedictorian of his school and as a national merit finalist. he now goes to college at georgia tech.

i think we all know potheads that are smarter and more successful than us.

My mom doesn't do enough drugs. She more or less totally abstains, even from drinking, except wine with dinner. She does, however, know about everything I've done, because I've told her about it. Her attitude towards drugs is sorta backwards, but she understands that I'm responsible for myself and have been for some time, so she doesn't freak.
