Ah yes, the Toyota Prius. Intelligent people as well as Hollywood stars just love the Prius.

The next Prius will be able to fly. This poses a problem for the Troll.

Top Gear is hardly the arbiter of car quality. Their three criteria:

1) Does the car go fast?
2) Does the car go really fast?
3) Does the car go really really fast?

You just provided us with every reason not to buy a Prius. At least, you helped me justify not buying one.

The Pruist is awesome but it's also an epic fail for dealerships are having a hard time keeping them on the showroom floor. There has been talk about some dealers marking these cars up as high as 33 thousand dollars.
If everyone bought a scooter or a Motoredbike or just use their bicycle for those short trips to the grocery store or even to work what a concept and we all just use less gas overall that will put a dent to our oil companies. If people built their own gas saving cars by producing their own Hydrogen in their garages,THAT's what will put a dent to our oil companies. You can spend 5 grand, far less than a Purist and build an electric car good for a 50 mile range which is more than a typical drive to the average American per day and it will be okay for it's not government regulated. It would be titled as a home built.
There are so many things we can all do TODAY to stick it to the oil companies. But like Starbucks every morning look at that long line, people don't like to change.

If you do that, LF, Big Oil will make sure that Big Brother makes it illegal because of inadequate oversight (haha) by the government to regulate safety and environmental friendliness.

Either way, you're a fag.

NO U!

Let's say in a perfect world none of us are fat and we all use our bicycles to commute to work every day.
Government gonna make bicycles illegal then?

I am completely underwhelmed by the Prius. Back in the mid nineties I used to get the same kind of mileage out of a non-hybrid vehicle that sold for far cheaper. Sure it was a tin can on wheels, but that fact only made it that much more efficient in terms of the enviromental cost involved in manufacturing it.
In addition to the fact that prius is far less efficient than I think it should be, the fact that most of the folks who traded their gas guzzlers for a prius did just that, traded it. This means their gas guzzler is probably still driving around consuming ridiculous amounts of fuel, so the only real impact they've made is on their own wallet.

However, I did hear an amusing anecdote from a friend. Apparently a co-worker of his recently tried to trade in her H2 at a dealership. The dealership flat out refused to take the thing.

Yet there is a mechanic in Kansas (maybe Nebraka), who is making relatively straight forward mods to vehicles such as Hummers, big SUV's, etc that result in them getting 35 - 50+ mpg. Saw a video about his work about 2-3 months ago.

35-50 mpg just doesn't impress me, though it's at least interesting in the case of modifying existing vehicles. If you can dig up a link to said video I'd be interested.

I'd love to see that video as well, SS, or any link to a story on the mechanic.

Took me a moment to track this one down, but this is even more astounding.

Modified in 1973 but built from a car from 1959, and it gets 376 miles to the gallon. Does even your motorized bicycle get that kind of mileage LF?

Tell me again why I should be impressed by 50 miles to the gallon?

The Prius is a fucking joke.
