Without interest there is no incentive to save or lend money. People want their investments to grow and returns on their investment. Without interest neither of these exist.

No. We need to stop deficit spending if we are to pay off our national debt. Interest rates have virtually nothing to do with our inability to pay it down.

In a way, I think I did. If things come out as badly as I'm fearing economically, I am afraid that he'd try to help the poor by borrowing money, rather than diverting budgetary resources towards that goal (and raising taxes if need be). I'm sure that is economically incredibly stupid of me, but it was on my mind.

I don't know if I agree with you, though I've little evidence to prove otherwise so read on only if you want TOTAL CONJECTURE sauce!

I predict that Obama will do well with the shitty economy. I think his plan to create jobs in the enviro-sector is right on- two birds with one stone- I also think he'll urge the creation of a new WPA, which worked before, so why not again?

I've also heard him talk about (and this is something I've had a secret muslim hard-on for like, ever for) extending the non-fighting side of the military out into civilian project groups- which is brilliant. Get 18 year old kids out of high school to join the military NOT as a fighting quantity but as builders of infrastructure and what not.

I don't know... Maybe I'm all drunk with the Obama brand kool-aid, but I do know that people need a leader in a crisis and, though there's an awful lot of partisanship about Barry, I do think that he's shown over and over his temperament and ability to keep cool in tough situations. I don't think he's the savior or anything, but I do think he's good at listening to his advisors and to both his supporters and his detractors- and from all of this arriving at good leadership decisions.

Again, mostly all conjecture. The last bit is real, though. He's sort of famed for giving everyone around him, from interns on up equal talking time. If someone doesn't like a plan of his or supports something he's doing but has something to add, he sits with them, asks good questions and listens.

Very important in a leader. Very, very important to a leader in a financial free-fall.

I agree with most of that. The things I like most about him are his respect for knowledge and expertise over partisanship, his charisma, persuasiveness, and intelligence. I think he has good ideas.

I'm just really worried that he will fund those ideas by the politically easier (but ultimately catastrophic) method of borrowing, and that he won't recognize when we just can't afford to implement his good ideas.

Bush found ways and no one seemed to have cared as long as they got what they wanted. It's no excuse but at least in my opinion he would be spending it in the right direction.
I like that Obama can be a cheerleader to all of us.

To me Bush never faltered. Some say this was a good trait. I say this was a STUBBORN trait. Bush will NEVER EVER admit to making a mistake. He will go to his grave with the belief that he did the absolute best thing he could have possibly have done as a president.
And what scares me about McCain is that he's a stubborn mutherfucker too. And as much as he says he's different with Bush that may be in his blood type only. He agrees in Bush's stubborn style in never faltering. He wants to be just as stubborn. He will NEVER declare defeat. He even said this himself that if it will take 100 years so be it that's just fucked up man.

This will sound twisted but I LIKE that Obama will flip flop. I LIKE that Obama will actually LISTEN to his advisors. If Bush listened to his advisors,if Bush listened to THE UNITED FUCKING NATIONS we would never have even STARTED this war.
