Question how many of yall like to read?

i am a book worm. a total nerd, complete with reading glassess and i am enrolled in many book clubs. i read between two and four books a week. i would love it if some of you could name the best book you ever read...or maybe just a couple of your favorites. dont drown me with a bunch of type, give me the title, author, and why you liked it.
thank you for playing in my thread.

Zen & the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, by Robert Pirsig.

Amazon editorial review: Arguably one of the most profoundly important essays ever written on the nature and significance of "quality" and definitely a necessary anodyne to the consequences of a modern world pathologically obsessed with quantity. Although set as a story of a cross-country trip on a motorcycle by a father and son, it is more nearly a journey through 2,000 years of Western philosophy. For some people, this has been a truly life-changing book.

Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets, David Simon

Amazon review: This 1992 Edgar Award winner for best fact crime is nothing short of a classic. David Simon, a police reporter for the Baltimore Sun, spent the year 1988 with three homicide squads, accompanying them through all the grim and grisly moments of their work--from first telephone call to final piece of paperwork...

and my favourites...

-A Clockwork Orange(anthony burgess)- just a general fun read. i read the cut version when i was younger, and the uncut(21st chapter) version a few years ago.
-Suicide Blonde(darcy steinke)- excellent imagery.just beautifully written.
-The Demon Haunted World-Carl Sagan- no real REASON why I liek this. I just do.
-An Underground Education-Richard Zacks-probably one of the coolest books ever. Anyone who has read it cover to cover will know why.

I use dto read 5 or 6 books a week. It was a sickness, even. Wore out my library card back then. Now, Im just too busy with work.
Also, that book on mythology and the preraphaelites book are excellent. brad agrees with me.

I read anything I can get my hands on. My tastes run towards horror. My mother did get me started on a fantasy series by Piers Anthony though. Funny little books filled with sexual inuendo.

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis was a big deal. I love it. Any kind of fantasy story will work too. White Wolf books have been a big deal. Especialy with role-playing. I'm damn good at it too if I do say so myself.

It's a pretty damn good read. As was the case with Jurassic Park, Crighton takes some science and puts a long stretch on it without taking it to implausible lengths. He then weaves a great story around the stretch, leaving the reader to ponder the "what ifs" posed by the scientific possibilities. Amen.

Well, DM, you might give it a read. I thought it was excellent. If you liked SOTL, I'm confident you'll truly enjoy Red Dragon. If you do get around to reading it, let me know what you think. Amen.

I read lots of biographies and auto-biographies.
Stephen King
Irvine Welsh
Travel books
History books

Basically whenever I'm not on line I'll be reading a book or magazine - I hardly ever watch tv.

My favourite novel is also one of my favourite films - The Godfather by Mario Puzo...great book!

Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens - I have loved that book since I was very young and I can still read it and enjoy it

You may want to check out Lightning by Dean R. Koontz. I think you may like it.

Other books:

  • Anything by Dean R. Koontz
  • Stephen King
  • There is a book called, Bethany's Sin. I don't remember the author, but it was a great book. It's not what it sounds like at all.
  • The Book of Counted Sorrows. I've only had the pleasure of reading certain things from it. But I will be purchasing that book as soon as poosible.

I love reading Everyone at my last work thought I was a bookworm. I basically read whatever my mum gives me, she gets cool books.

Along came a spider - James Patterson : All of his books are great, he mainly writes about one detective but this was the first I ever read if his and it kicked ass. A serial killer is targeting kids and he's a fucking maniac. Its very coldhearted and interesting. His last book was a bit of a bummer though unfortunately

Anything by Michael Connely and also Patricia Cornwell. Love those serial killer books.

John Grisham is pretty cool too, first big book I ever read was The Client..that was what hooked me onto books.

The Poisonwood Bible - Barbara Kingsolver
About a preacher that moves his family to the middle of the Congo. Very fascinating, makes you think what it would be like if you suddenly had to move somewhere like that and live in a two room hut with mud floors.

Anyway..I'll hush
