Your family name
Guys ~ how important is it to you to pass on your 'name' (meaning the family name)?
Women ~ Would you or have you changed your name when you got married? if you got divorced did you change it back?
Is your last name important to you?

My last name is "Yourselves!" It's not important to me that that be passed on. (I'm just hoping that the last name of the girl I marry isn't "WhyDon'tYou"!)

Yes I had mine changed.
Divorce will never happen and "what if" has never crossed my mind.
Not really... My name is not what makes me the person I am. But, I am proud to be the one and only woman to accept his last name (besides his mother).

I don't know anyone on my dad's side of the family. Hell, I don't know my real dad. (Awwwe...tthhhhptt! )
Sherman doesn't mean a whole lot to me, I've never thought of getting it changed either. I hope to make something of it some day though, do what my dad never did. The selfish prick. I will be shit until I get married and start a family of my own. I am fine with this.

My last name means alot to me. It connects me to those that came before me, and reminds me of them.

Not many men have my maiden name... it was "created" when my ancestors immigrated from Norway. I don't feel that any memories, history, legacies, stories, etc. have been lost with my name change. They live in me and will be passed on to newer generations just as well without the name.

Well, not important enough to get me out from in front of this computer on a Saturday night, apparently.

I like the way my name sounds, & so I wouldnt want to change it.
Someone at my college was talking about my senior thesis show to a friend of mine. They swore that my name could not be my real name cos it sounds too good. They thought I changed it for fame.

I am a prideful arogant fucker
My older bro once told me that I shamed the family name once...
I just thought that was funny. But passing on 'the name" is important to my dad, so I was getting everyone elses take on it.

Hey Shermie! I've wondered if you were related to General Sherman. You ought to read up on him. There's a tremendous amount of history surrounding him--a history well worth knowing and extremely interesting, to boot.
BTW, although he didn't actually say it, "War is hell!" is a quote widely attributed to him.

Well, my last name was Armstrong for 18 years. It is my father's last name, and was passed to all 4 of us (me and my 3 siblings).
On my mother's side of the family, the name was set to die. The only cousins I have were from my aunts, so they have different last names and my only uncle on that side of the family never had any children.
And, I was closer to that side of the family, and my father left when I was 12.
So, when I was 18, I changed my last name.
It was surprisingly easy. For the first 18 years of my life my mom's maiden name was my middle name. I just reversed the order. from Paint CHiPs Armstrong to Paint Armstrong CHiPs
Take that however you take it.

You're name wouldn't happen to be Jeremy Sword would it?
You should e-mail me your real name. Good names fascinate me, I use them in stories and shit.

Besides, not like I can't use my god-like admin powers to get your name, address, phone number, social security number, blood type, Permanent Record, eye color, and name of first pet anyway.
This way is just easier on the both of us.

I like my last name. If I ever get married, I'll probably keep it, since I'll have built a professional reputation by that time (marriage is far off in the future if it ever happens). I'll be the last person in our family with the name anyway, since my sis has already gotten married and taken her husband's name.
