Em, perhaps I'm getting overly semantical, but the truth of what you say depends entirely upon the meaning attached to "forgetting". I would say this--Wouldn't it be wonderful if, in the process of extending forgiveness to someone that you, in turn, could literally be blessed with total amnesia of the transgression? Of course, that is impossible, although it would, without question, bring relief from the painful memory.
I will agree with you, however, in this context--Truly forgiving someone carries an obligation to never again indict that person for the wrong. So, in that sense, it is forgotten, i.e., never mentioned again.
By the same token, perhaps its best that we never lose the memory of what's forgiven, lest we lose the lesson learned. Amen.
*NODS* yes, Jeb. You say things so much better than I do. Everything you said is exactly 'right on target' IMO. Thanx for making it clear.
