Post Hypnosis

I was talking with a friend last night about his childhood and its a known fact that I remember little to none of mine. It has lots to do with me being abused as a child. My mom has informed me of this but then ends the conversation there. She will not discuss it and neither will anyone else in my family.

I personally would like to know exactly what happened. Not just in that situation but in my childhood as a whole.

My friend suggested I go to a hypnotist (sp) and see if that helps me any. My problem with this is the fact that I think I will remember things when I think I can handle them. But it hasnt happened yet and Im not getting any younger.

What do you all think?

STellar:

Email a personal friend of IBeFree and me. He is a counselor and hypnotist, not to mention a just plain down-to-earth wonderful guy.

It's a proven fact that sometimes hypnosis can lead to false memories. The brain, lacking the actual information (or still not wanting to give it up) constructs an alternate memory (often based on the questions prompted by the hypnotist). I don't think that would be an ideal thing for you if all you want is to remember your childhood. I think your best bet is just to hope that it comes in time.

Rosh that is what I was thinking. My g-ma went to a hypnotist and he basically implanted false things in her head which she, at the time, believed to be true. She later found out that they werent even close to being true. He also suggested shock treatments, which I would *never* consider.

Thanks Em...I will consider contacting him!

I didn't mention this, but I should have. I've never had hypnosis done myself.
(except that group thing I did once...oops, nevermind. )

And, I'm not sure it's what you need. But, Truman has never pushed it on me, even when IBeFree suggested it in front of him. I think it must be something very personal and takes someone very reputable to do a good job. IF I were to have hypnotherapy, I would trust Truman though.

So, to wrap this up....I think he'll give you good information and not try to 'persuade' you either way.

I hope whatever you decide to do, that your mind is relieved of the mystery you are feeling about your past.

Perhaps get as much facts as you can from your family
try hypnosis, and see if any of the facts match

you might not want to read over the facts first, because im sure itd effect the results.

I have had a lot of great experances with Hypnosis by the friend Em mentioned ... his wife has even certified on me a few years ago... YOU are really the one doing the work... it is like that point just before you go to sleep... and are still aware of where you are... but you feel like you are in a tunnel ... and don't much care!!! --- it can be used as a tool (but you are still in control--- and YOU are STILL dong the work yourself) YOU will NOT... do ANYTHING under hypnosis that conflicts with your own value system !!! ----

I was doing it a few years ago for STRESS ... and back pain.... Dr. Reid can... and has put me under completely without even saying a word to me... and using visual signals ... but then I am very relaxed with him ... and that takes time and WORK!!!

Email him ... and I am sure he will give you some great info which might help!!!

Good Luck ... and if you get the chance ... let me know how it turns out for you ....
