Unhappy Lost Dog

my doggie escaped from my backyard last night. i left her out for thirty minutes after dinner, and when i went to bring her in, she was gone.
i am so so so sad about it. i have never ever had a dog i loved so much. its pathetic. i drove around for three hours last night looking for her, i have called all the local vets, and the animal shelters that are open. does anyone have any other tricks that worked to bring a lost dog home?
i want my "sidney do" back.
*cries*

Heh, sounds like you have a wandering girl too. Gracie became a master escape artist, managing to let herself out of doors, leap over 4-5 foot fences...she'd disappear for hours, sometimes a day, and usually come back ecstatic to see me. A lot of the times, she had gotten into roadkill. Once while she'd been gone, I was half-tanked on a bottle of wine (she'd been gone for a day, and I seriously didn't expect to see her this time). In she marches covered in the flesh, blood, and hair of something that was beginning to turn from rot. Bathing a dog covered in roadkill is not fun when you're drunk.

I'm glad she came back to you; be prepared for future wandering instances. One of the ways I sealed off one of Gracie's routes was to leave her out, but watch her constantly to see how she was getting out of the yard. She ran in several high-powered circles, and then smoothly lept over the fence. Not much I could do about it, since it was rental property.

I had a dog once named Arwen. She was a dobermann. Anyway, she loved putting her head out the window while the car was moving. One day she actually jumped out the window, while the car was going about 25 mph.
It took my parents about an hour to find her.

You need yourself one of those electronic devices to keep a dog from escaping, i suggest you place them on you kids as well

At least you care about your pet.

I have new neighbors who have a great dog that is also an escape artist. They are well aware of it as she is sitting on the porch each afternoon when they arrive home and not in the backyard where they left her. For the entire damn day the dog runs free. She's in the street half the time. I've seen her nearly get run down half a dozen times. The little shit is impossible to catch. She lets you get three inches from her and dashes off with lightening speed.

I have brought this up to these irresponsible jackasses on several occasions with no change. They have a garage she could stay in. She wouldn't be outdoors, but she wouldn't be dead or at the pound either.

I feel like a bitch and don't have that friendly neighbor feeling going with them, but dumb-ass pet owners are a source of endless irritation to me. Don't have pets if you can't care for them. WTF?
