Angry Fuck!

I was just downloading a file from my brother... been downloading since last night (it's about a gig). It was at 60%, and my computer just crashed. I rebooted, popped up my FTP program, reconnected to his FTP server, and tried to resume... and it's back down to 21%!!! WTF?! That's 12 hours downloading down the drain.

Question

What kind of connection do you have set up there so that a LAN transfer (it is, isn't it?) of a gig takes HOURS??

Oh god, you aren't using a serial cable, are you?

It's a net transfer.

My brother's connecting through DSL (I think) but they've got him set up so his max upload speed is 10 k/s, so I'm plodding along trying to get the damned thing. I might just ask him to burn me a couple cds and mail it to me.

Ok now I am curious, what are you getting?
The only kind of file I can think of that's that big is an uncompressed movie of some sort. . .

Aww, bandwidth caps SUCK. Has he looked into getting around it? There are hacks out there that can let you bypass it, or even give yourself MORE bandwidth. . .

It's actually some ISO files he's got. For two cds. A program I tried getting elsewhere but came up with errors. (We're not supposed to discuss this on the forum, so I'm not going into any more detail than that.)

As for the bandwidth cap, I think it's something about Verizon not setting up his phone line right or something. I didn't follow entirely.

Actually, I think a good, robust discussion on the topic would be very interesting. There's definitely been a misunderstanding that probably originated over in WIT; you can talk about it all you want here. After all, who are we to stop you from incriminating yourself. It's when the exchange of such software is implied or openly discussed using this board as the conduit, or direct links are posted, that we get involved.

Oh. Okay. Well... I restarted, left it on all night. It's at 82%. Hopefully it'll be done by around 7.

Then there's the fact that my friend just pointed me to a web site that has it available. I'm not about to go that way now that I've spent this much time getting it from my brother, unless my computer crashes again and I lose the file again.

I'm not up for incriminating myself so I'll still leave out the details.

He's across the country. Doesn't exactly make it easy.
