Arrow Tipping Creatively

I'm throwing together a little list of creative ways to tip your server when you go out to eat. Good and bad. Here's what I've came up with through personal experience in tipping and being tipped:

*Oragami*: Hearts, cranes, squares, weird funky shapes, etc.

*Pocket lint*: Anything neat or mildly interesting you can find in your pocket or purse that you are willing to part with along with, of course, money. For example: gum, pez dispenser, business card, condom, chick tract (heheh), quarter machine toy... the list doesn't stop here. Get creative.

*Window display*: Dip the bills in water and slap them to the window. They'll stick.

*Go fish*: get change for a buck or two or more and drop it in the bottom of your unfinished beverage.

*The stripper*: Fold the bill up longways, wave it at your server, and when they come close enough, tuck it into their pocket or apron.

*Coke lines*: Empty a packet of artificial sweetener onto the table (sugar is too grainy), cut it up into lines much like one would cocaine, and roll up the bill tightly and just set it up next to the lines. Note, this tip only works with one bill. Make it a 5.

*Little note*: Easy and VERY effective. Just write a super-short thank you note with your tip. I got one and i showed it off to the entire staff. It was sweet.

*Play money*: buy play money and cover your table in it. make it the almost-real looking kind. scatter it all over the table, along with the tip.

Have you ever tipped creatively?
Do share.

I've found that waitresses love $2 bills. For some reason, they don't even mind being shorted on the tip if it's done in 2's. (I've never done it, but friends have.)

Then there's the gold dollars... same concept.

Aside from that, nope.

There's a $2 bill?

My friend Nicole and I used to go to the local Baker's Square occasionally for some pie and we usually always got the same waiter, Ross. We'd leave Ross a good tip plus whatever else we had on us. Packs of gum, matches, passes to clubs, a pocket bible (someone had handed it to Nicole at school that day), he'd always end up with a pile of junk on the table.

Two things:
It's true, servers are amused by 2 dollar bills and gold dollars.
The pile of junk on the table is so much more than a pile of junk to a server.
Anything else?

Exclamation

i've left a box of four unused crayons, a picture a friend and i colored, assorted change made into the shape of a clover, a car wash token, and two trivial pursuit trivia cards to assorted waiters and waitresses. but i think the worst one i ever gave was to this real hag of a waitress. it was extremely bad service, and she was very cranky and short with me, plus she screwed up my order and refused to fix it. i left her a travel pack of midol and a tampon.

Note to self:
Purchase travel size Midol and tampons to keep in the car for tips! Yay! Great Idea!

I always tip. I over tip for good service. My wife always knows if the waitress is hot I leave an even bigger tip. Red hair (on women) gets an extra two dollars. I left $15 once on a moderatly priced meal. Delicious! The food sucked.

My friend and I wrote a little "love letter" to a cute waitress once on a $5 bill as her tip. That's about as creative as we've been.

Giving the waiter/waitress a few dollars and saying "thank-you" is about as creative as I get

That's OK, because I'm always a good customer. I always clean up my table and leave the dishes neatly stacked at the side of the table. I used to be a busboy when I was in school, so I know what a pain in the ass it is when people leave a mess at their table.

Thumbs up

I once tipped this chick at this show I went to my gum because I didn't have much money...
I didn't actually give it to her, she took it... but she was cool, so I wasn't offended.
