Picasso - Cubism, the blue period, etc.

Einstein - Special and General Relativity.

Vietnam represents a cultural facelift for america's youth and adults.

Photography. Cinema.

Nuclear/hydrogen Bomb.

Post-Modernism in general, ie: feminism, fascism, deconstruction, marxism, existentialism, etc. People thought in a very cyclic manner for all of human history. Now, in the 20th and 21st centuries it is easier to be open to new ideas, concepts, and ideologies. Essentially, the idea that epistemolgical spirituality was not the be all end all of our souls. Also, I know that you can argue this dilineation having been started in the 1800's, however, it did not take international centerstage until after WWI.

Jazz.

Just a few for the list.

Ummm, some of these are getting a bit off topic.

I mean, sure it is arguable that the hydrogen bomb and "all the wars" and birth control are cultural creations, but I don't think that's what he meant.

Perhaps "works of art and popular culture" would have been a better way to put it.

Thumbs down

This is getting out of hand.

(I still think that Hotel California trumps World War I anyway, especially when you consider the re-union tour.)

Paint Chips you bastard!

Whom should say that a nuke is not a piece of art? Strangely conical warmly humming smooth of exterior gracefull in flight. A delicate ballet, it wafts into the ether only to return in an orange arc decending. It's white light bathing a city in its clensing glow creating a glowing pool of glass which quicky cools into an utter calm as grey snowflakes of nuclear fallout gently decend coating the earth silently like a new winter snow with survivors snugly nestled into their shelters ready for a long peacefull hibernation.

The bomb is your friend. How else could you weed all the gardens in New York City in two seconds. In about 12 billion years it will make a killer roller blade hockey rink.

Is there really any need to list more?

I didn't think so.

Live In Freedom

In retrospect, I probably should have taken the vanilla icecream. But the chocolate looked far too tempting. Little did I know at the time, it was actually little children all mushed up into a fine icey paste. Needless to say, I didn't sleep well that night, and neither did those kiddies. Well, I didn't stand for such a crime!! NO WAY. I marched back in that store and demamded an explanation. And there is was. Double chocolate icecream. Sitting there, waiting to be ingested. Oh, the taste. Oh the pure orgasmic feeling when you consume the delicious cream. Oh, how I love chocolate icecream.

I mean, you're old and all... but,

Twain was born in 1835 and died in 1910. He didn't write anything during the twentieth century that changed culture very much.

Read for yourself old man .

Me read?? Get thee back up to the top and read the parameters for the list. At no point is the "twentieth century" mentioned.
I believe it says, "a hundred or so years. Wouldn't you say that Mr. Clements impact on culture took place in that time period? Are you aware that he is still one of if not the best selling writers in the world? To this day, still a top seller in over 60 languages.
Hah! Didn't take no new fangled google to know that either.
