I hate debt. . . I've never been in it. I don't believe in credit cards, and I don't own any or want them. When I want something expensive, I save up for it and buy it in cash. I believe people should work for what they want, because otherwise you'll never value it once you get it.

I own Goatboy and since I live in Arizona, I am not bothered by DLR's article.
And since Goatboy owns all of you, I guess I am your Grandowner.

Hmm...for everything that money can't buy, see Datura's post, she summed it up better than I can.
For things that money can buy I'm kinda on the fence....I own my stereo, computer, cd's, etc...but I won't be satisfied until I pay back my mom every cent she spent to buy them for me. Go figure.

That's not fair, you don't have any balls.
Nor do you have testicles.

I took my morning walk with my dogs and thought about my own question.
The things I own that money can't buy:
sense of self
good heart
dreams
integrity
honesty
my body
memories
love
empathy
intelligence
wisdom
creativity
Things I own that money can buy:
I have a credit card but I never use it, being in debt makes me feel awful so I own everything I have in my house. If I can't afford it I don't own it. I have a few toys, my computer, mountain bike, tv and vcr. I have two dogs and a cat. My car is paid for. I believe that when I buy things I should not consider price, but quality...I would rather have a few very nice things that last than alot of cheap junk that will fall apart and need to be replaced. Usually that costs more initially.
Another important thing I own that money can buy are my art supplies. I have invested a lot of money over the years in them and I cherish them.
The way they connect? Well, maybe the best way to look at it is what would I try to get out of my house if it were on fire? My dogs and cat. My suitcase of photos, my baby blanket that is in tatters. My mom's ashes. Me. The toys can fry. Nothing is that important.
Sometimes I think it would be a relief to get rid of everything. That is one thing I enjoy about travelling, I can only take so much, only the things I really need. There is a sense of freedom when you carry your basic needs on your back. And it really makes you appreciate what you have when you get home.
Has anyone ever heard of the Peace Pilgrim? She was an older woman who walked across the States with nothing except the clothes on her back. Slept in fields covered with brush to keep her warm, or sometimes she would meet someone who would invite her home for a meal and a bed. She depended on herself and the kindness of strangers. She wrote a book. She was very happy.
For that matter, I often find that people who have the least to share materially are often the most generous. They do not have that sense of entitlement that creates greed. They follow the idea that if your hand (heart) is closed and clinging to what you own, your hand (heart)is not open to receive anything, either.
My dogs, cat and my health are the most important things I own. I think I am blessed to have those.
All of this has made me think of another question, which is somewhat related. I will post that tomorrow!

I don't even own me. I'm just the current caretaker of this body. I have to give it up when I die.

What do you really own?
Sometimes it's hard to not feel inadequate in this culture.
Look around and you will see people in their brand new cars, talking on their cell phones, everyone well dressed and looking sharp. Beautiful homes, dream vacations, expensive toys. It all looks so darn easy!
But do they really own it? Or are they in debt up to their eyeballs, slaves to their jobs just to keep up with the Joneses?
So two questions really, what do you own that money can't buy, and what do you own that money can buy? And how do they connect to each other? (umm, that makes it 3 questions, sorry.)

I own me.
Cheesey ass answer, but it's all anyone really owns.
Something I own that money can buy.. well, various books.
How do the connect? I read the books & teach myself things I am interested about. Enlightening myself is a good thing.
Cool question.

I like my old car, and my old house.
I have to raise my voice in order to say hello to my neighbor if we are both in our yards, I have a healthy child and that’s enough for me.
(sorry i didnt do it exactly like you asked...guess im just a rebel )

what do you own that money can't buy:
* self respect
* love
* family
* friends
* memories
* education
* freedom
what do you own that money can buy?
* clothes
* computer
* a roof over my head
* a camera
* a fulltime status @ my university
* drivers license
And how do they connect to each other?
* well I would be embarassed and maybe even lose a lil' respect for myself if I decided to run around buck nekkid
* I can communicate w/ my family and friends over the computer via icq, or even the telephone (which i own also lol).
* It would be hard to be fully happy w/out a roof over my head.. being cold and stressed day after day.. sharing warmth over the holidays with family and friends
* my freedom is proven with my drivers license. I'm glad that I was born in Ontario, Canada.. and not Rwanda or something.
* although many memories still remain in my mind, I will have photos to show my grandchildren and look back upon as a reminder when I am old.
* I can be educated each and everyday, just by living on this earth as a human being. However, my creditline is buying me more education by allowing me to pay my tuition.
errr yeah.. that's good enough for now I guess..
back to reading.. this damn education!!
