Post I've said it once and I will say it again.

When will the person in power in the US (you all know who I mean) accept that his country have a responsibilty to the global environment, and the Kyoto Protocol. Why he is bowing to pressure from environmant killing lobby groups?

The US is the biggest emitter of CO2, with just four per cent of the world's population producing nearly a quarter of the global total, and the President's move, while not directly linked to the protocol, will seriously affect the ability of the US to meet the emissions reduction targets it promised under the treaty.

Why does he refuse to take global climate change seriously? Particularly as the latest evidence has proved the sceptics wrong on the existance of global warming. Global Warming is happening. And the only way to stop it and possible save the future of life on this planet is to stop mindlessly consuming fossil fuels and accept responsibilty for irresponsible actions.

Actually that is where you are wrong. Research, published yesterday in the journal Nature, compares data gathered in 1970 by an orbiting US satellite with data collected in 1997 by a Japanese satellite. Both measured solar radiation reflected by the Earth's surface and atmosphere – a measure of the greenhouse effect.

Critics of the global warming theory argue that much research relies on theoretical assumptions built into computer models. But the latest findings provide hard evidence that the global climate is changing due to higher levels of CO2 and other man-made pollutants.

The scientists, led by Professor John Harries of Imperial College, London, found that over the past 30 years the ability of greenhouse gases, notably CO2, to trap the Sun's heat has increased measurably, possibly because greenhouse gases have increased over that time.

Although the scientists are confident that they have measured the worsening greenhouse effect, they admit that the data fall short of definitive proof that it is the result of increases in man-made pollutants.

"But it does make [the proposition] stronger," said Helen Brindley, one of the researchers. "We're not saying we've found human influences on global warming but we think we can see human effects on radiative emissions into space from Earth.".

"We have shown that greenhouse gases themselves have directly contributed to the decrease in radiative emissions into space. You'd expect to see a temperature response in some way – the heat is remaining in the Earth's atmosphere," Dr Brindley said.

The research was only made possible by the recent rediscovery of the 1970 data – stored on ancient computer tapes in a cupboard at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, part of Nasa, operators of the Nimbus climate satellite launched in 1970. Instruments measuring the spectra of light radiating from the Earth provided a unique signature of the role played by greenhouse gases now and 30 years ago, according to Professor Harries.

"These unique satellite spectrometer data collected 27 years apart show for the first time that real spectra differences have been observed and that they can be attributed to changes in greenhouse gases over a long time," he said.

The scientists eliminated the possibility of instrument defects causing differences in the two sets of data, or the influence of cloud cover at the time measurements were taken.

OK, so now you admit its not bullshit, but you don't see it as a problem. Well I guess half a U Turn is better than none.

I am confused though as to how you define Global Warming and the Greenhouse Effect as being somehow politcally motivated? Why is it Left Wing propaganda? Sounds like you are paranoid

Cool

I believe he made the decision due to the fact that we are having a major power shortage here in the West and, whether real or not, it is driving prices up to the point where power has become unaffordable for the general public. (among other reasons as well, ie: a push by certain constituants).

On a completely different subject, but covering government responsibility, why are Irish leaders calling British leaders irresponsible in the way they are handling the foot-in-mouth outbreak? I heard an interview yesterday where an Irish leader stated that Britain has not gone far enough to prevent the spread. Animals are not being destroyed/burned fast enough so they are being left to rot in fields. They haven't banned horse racing and other animal involved events which can also spread the disease. Do you have anymore info on what your government is doing and why they are dragging their feet in this?

This is not a counter attack, I'm just wondering now that they have put up restrictions and checks here in the states (poor bunkum when she gets back from Ireland).

Well Cal. We have had a ban on all movemtent of livestock since three days after the first case. The areas where the vbirus has been seen are no go areas nows. I would say we have not dragged outr feet on the issue at all.

The real problem has been that they think the virus was on the move for about two weeks before the outbreak(i.e. incubation period) and that has been the cause of the spread.

I have to disagree with your point there sp00k, the govt have not done nearly enough in outlaying the seriousness of the outbreak, the media have run alot of stories based on the last outbreak and the effects that were suffered then. This is admittedly a much smaller (is it tho) outbreak, but more stringent measures need to be enforced.
I know it is impossible to stop people travelling where they need to go, but the only people stopping the children from infected areas going to school and coming into contact with other children are the parents of those children.
People dont understand the implications of their free roaming actions. The govt have no done enough to make this apparent.

Back on the subject of global warming, is it not possible that as much radiation is bouncing back off as is being reflected back in. Either way tho, why the fuck should we be fucking about with nature, its not ours to fuck about with and we should do our best to minimise the impact on the environment at any level. It just makes sense is all.
No more environment, no more us is all it boils down to.

Well personally i see no problem with people going into infected areas if they are not going to be in contact with animals. The virus does nto pose any threat to public health.

Yes global warming is a farce. There is just as much evidence refuting it as there is supporting it.
The fact is that the scientists whom support this mainstream lie are better funded than the ones whom dont. The media is clearly biased in that reguard also.

And another thing. Do you think it is right for for Bush to allow the US to renage on an internationally agreed and ratified treaty? Thereby sending a message to the world that the US are not to be trusted in the slightest.

*thinks for a moment*

Is the US the new Soviet Union?

I have to say another thing to Dog Bretah and Dave Lee Roth. Both of you see global warming as a lie. But the rest of the world does not. Does it not strike you as strange that when 96% of the worlds population are concerned about it, that they may have a point?
