How to keep a long distance relationship

1.) Communicate
Be it Emails, phone calls, text messages, voice chat, IRC, ICQ or whatever, like melon says, be a phone: Ring!
Dont call when your depressed, lonley, bored or anything though, no one wants to speak to a depressed lonley bored person.
Write Letters, no one gets enough mail. Everyone likes a good letter, so pick up a pen and paper and pour your heart out.
2.) Make it count
Make everything you manage to do together be special, when you see them bring them flowers, or a gift, or even something you made yourself. if you arange to do something online, be there and do it, dont be cooking your dinner or bathing the dog at the same time... give all your attention and take nothing for granted.
3.) Be faithfull
In your head. Think about them, dream about them and think about them sitting there thinking about you. You're both under the same sky, seeing the same sun, same stars... Love knows no bounds.
With your body, keep your hands to yourself if you can, we all have needs but its so much better when you're on love.
4.) Be yourself
Never pretend, be honest, and be true, If they dont know you as well as they might, they dont want to get to know someone who is not who they say they are. Be brutal about yourself. Although always strive to be a better person for them.
5.) Be stronger
if you cannot learn and become stronger from being apart then you are doing it wrong. A distance relationship will be stonger when you can be together. That which fails to destroy us and all that....
pah... what do i know?

I have to dissagree with karen here, I find my relationship with brim is wonderful.
We are only an hour and a half apart but that is still quite a distance when you get lonely during the week. But thoughts of seeing him cheer me up and every weekend when he walks through my door I am happy regardless of what mood I was in before.
When you care about someone enough you make sacrifices, it doesnt matter what it is, in every relationship you have you are giving a part of yourself. The sacrifices could be anything.. mine happens to be having someone local, but I knew in the begining that I had to and I accepted it, I work with it.
aminals advice is wonderful
(ps dont really mind this if it doesnt make sense..... Im really sick right now)

the long distance relationship that I have been in for the past 4 years will be drawing to a close soon. She graduates in May, we're getting an apartment together in June, then I'll graduate the following June, and I'll be following her to one of several cities to work while she goes to grad school.
It has been really hard lately, because she's been busy with her 60-page senior project but there isn't much longer to go...then we get to find out how we'll handle a no-distance relationship.
Sound advice aminal, those points have worked for us thus far.
