A question to the Illegal Drug users from everywhere...

Okay, to follow the many "question" threads that are going on, let me ask this to those who partake in the consumption of illegal drugs (pot, heroin, cocaine, etc.)...

Would you stop the consumption of these drugs if you knew that by doing so you would end much of the gun violence, murders, broken families, domestic violence, etc., etc. that takes place in yours and other countries (ie: Columbia, Mexico)? Also, by doing so you would free up billions of dollars that could be spent on helping the homeless, aids relief to Africa, rebuilding inner cities, better schools, cleaning up the environment, etc..

Knowing all this, would you quit using these drugs today?

Now this isn't a debate whether drugs should be legal or not, in most countries they are illegal and those who use them are breaking the law. This is a debate to see if you would quit taking them to do your part to end the violence. Here in the states a large percentage of violence in the form of gangs, robbery, theft, assault, murder, etc. take place as a direct result of the demand portion of the "supply and demand" chain (as stated above).

What are your thoughts?

impossible to answer this question without the other.

except for the broken home part which can happen without those things

but as for the rest, i would like to see your facts on the issue. (with its relating to the fact that they should be seperate)

No. I would solve the 'supply and demand' chian by legalise them and letting the state tax them. (a little like they do with alcohol and tobacco) Lots of revenue to solve the stavartion of public services and less crime because people can get it wothout the criminal element. Problem solved. Or am I just an a ex-junkie (there are final hits and final hits which one will this be?) kind of guy?

What other question fiend? Legality? The fact is the drugs I mentioned are illegal. Until they are made legal on a state and federal level there is no point discussing that aspect. I am asking the question with today's laws in mind.

Absolutely not. (Besides, making drugs legal would be a much better alternative, but I guess that subject has been talked to death already.)



And doing LSD doesn't cause me to hang out in gangs and do domestic violence. And saying that something is bad is because it is illegal is just stupid. Many laws are arbitrary, and apparently made by stupid people. And most drug info you'll find on government websites is biased propaganda.

Back to the topic, yes Cal, I would give up illegal drugs for the greater good.

But then again I don't do them as it is. I have done them in the past but really feel no need now So it's easy for me to say, I suppose.

However, a yes or no aside, some people might want to give the book "From Chocolate to Morphine" by Dr. Andrew Weil a read. A brief synopsis of the book from Amazon:
