Can someone enlighten me please?

Don;t get me wrong. This thread has nothing to do with bashing anyone. Its a question. BAsically I was just at the Amnesty site (daily visit). I noticed a story about a guy on death row in the states. Now I don't want to talk about the case, or why he got the death penalty, or whether the death penalty is right, or any of that shit.

I was just wondering, this guy has been on death row for 19 years. Its not the first time I have heard of people being on death row this long. Why does this usualy happen? IS it just beacuse of extermely slow appeal cases or something else?

You hit the nail on the head, it's appeals process, and most death sentences take many years to carry out. This is supposed to prevent innocent people from being executed.
