I think Henry II was a pretty good dictator (I know technically he was aKing, but there is not really much difference). Oliver Cromwell comes a close second.

But he fought for his cause, and willingly died for it. He made a decision that he would sooner die than see his people defeated, or shamed, and he went through with that decision.
