Were the pharaohs air-traffic controllers?
The Great Pyramid is an excellent marker for aerial navigation. Its four sides face the four compass points (north, south, east, west) precisely.
It's positioning is of even greater importance. It's situated less than five miles south of the northern thirtieth parallel. This is overwhelmingly significant. This positioning means that the Pyramid can be used as a reference point. Its then possible to section the entire planet into a three dimensional grid. The grid would consist of 30-, 60- and 90- degree angles with the North Pole, South Pole, Equator and the centre of the Earth as reference points.
Another 'coincidence' is that the Pyramid is located at the centre of the Earth's land masses. And the benefit of all this positioning?
All you need is to know the Earth's dimensions and by having a method of calculating how far you have travelled, you could navigate from the Pyramid to any point on Earth using the 30-69-90 degree grids and the compass directions (the sides of the Pyramid).
All this would be beneficial by air. The Great Pyramid was once covered in fine white limestone. The limestone reflected the sun making the Pyramid visible form air, at a much greater distance than it is to see it today.
All this begs the question; who would need an aerial navigation marker thousands of years ago?
Well?
