 PMG, you will not friggin' believe this....
Yesterday I was in #wota PM with PMG, complaining about what an amotivated loser I was. I was in a heavy have-procrastinated-too-much-and-therefore-pity-myself type mood, feeling real worthless because of the times I can't seem to pull myself away from surfing and gaming to get important stuff like homework and my column done on time. She was very supportive and helpful, urging me to break the negativity cycle and get off my duff and do what needs to be done.
At one point, the conversation went something like this:
Me> I suck because I goof off on the computer too much.
PMG> Well, that is no good. You should go do some work.
Me> I can't. I am too lazy and worthless.
PMG> I know what you can do to help yourself!
Me> What? Break my computer?
After this little exchange (which continued on in a positive direction, thank you PMG for motivating me!), I noticed my computer was a bit sluggish and needed a restart. I told PMG that I would be right back after a doing so.
Well, things didn't work out that way. My computer froze upon restarting so I had to force it to restart again. This time however, the machine crashed in the worst way. I either have a hardware failure or a firmware corruption of some kind because the machine won't do anything but turn on. I can tell electricity is running to it because the "On" light is lit, but other than that, there is NO activity going on. I took it in for inspection/ repair and hope that they can fix whatever is wrong without trashing my HD. I'm pretty sure the main source of the problem isnt the HD because I can't even boot from CD which I should be able to do if it was just a Hard Drive failure. But it is likely a motherboard problem (maybe just a dead battery though *hope, hope*) that will cost me 2/3 the price of a new box I bet. The funny thing is I have a brand new laptop sitting in my mom's living room in Idaho, waiting for me to pick it up.
So anyway, I had to comment on the karmic sense of humor that Universe holds for us all. If any admins read this, consider this notice that my column (already a week behind schedule) is further postponed. (On the bright side I am travelling to the U.S. in two weeks and may be able to conjure up some Idawhore tales with Bondo and WastedP for future posting). PMG, thanks again for the support and know that I am being very productive without my electronic fix. For the rest of you, let this tale be a reminder to regularly back up your data. You never know when your sarcasm is gonna bite your ass.
