regicide, patricide, matricide, fratricide and suicide
Nepal royal family massacred
The king and queen of Nepal have been killed in a mass assassination of royal family members in Kathmandu.
Eleven people - including several members of the royal family - were shot dead late on Friday evening after a dinner table dispute about a bride for the heir to the throne.
Crown Prince Dipendra, educated at Eton College in the United Kingdom, was heir to the throne.
King Birendra's 29-year-old son, Crown Prince Dipendra, committed regicide, patricide, matricide and fratricide before turning his sub-machine gun on himself and committing suicide.
He had apparently disagreed with his mother, Queen Aiswarya, over his choice of wife.
According to recent press reports, astrologers had advised that the crown prince should not be allowed to marry or have children until he reached the age of 35.
The astrologers warned that the king would die if this advice was ignored.

I heard this on the news and at that time it hadn't reached the mass of Nepal because they were asleep. Wait until they read the morning paper.

the constitution and royal tradition make Prince Dipendra first in line for the throne as the eldest son of a deceased king.
so, exactly what happens if he wakes from the coma and is well enough to be King?
Does he not face charges? This is just too surreal.

I doubt he will be brought to justice.
Charles should follow Dipendra's example, before his monarchy is declared obsolete.

You'd have to be pretty fucking incompetent to not be able to off yourself with a sub-machine gun.

yet another twist in the tale:
In Nepal, official mourning has now ended for the late King Birendra, Queen Aishwarya and eight other members of the Royal Family who were killed in a dramatic mass shooting in the palace on 1 June.
But many Nepalis are finding it hard to believe that former Crown Prince Dipendra carried out the shootings after drinking neat whisky and smoking hashish, despite the confirmation of the facts in an official report.
At the gates of the royal palace, the huge mounds of flowers, tributes and photographs which had been here since the killings happened have now all been swept away.
It is as if the authorities are making a definite statement - telling people it is the end of the mourning period and time to move on. But it is hard for people to do that when they still don't feel they're being told the truth.
"Nobody was satisfied before the report was out - nobody is satisfied even after report is out," one young man told me.
"Even if they say it's been done with all the scientific things they've got together, nobody's yet satisfied," he said.
He is not alone in remaining unconvinced by the official report into what happened in the palace.
One young woman said she was not happy with the speed with which the cremations were carried out, nor with the lack of medical evidence.
"The main question is post-mortem reports. We wanted to see the face and we wanted to give a tribute to our late king but we were not supposed to do that," she said.
And she doesn't believe that Dipendra carried out the killings.
"There's a big conspiracy behind it - one person cannot shoot 10 people."
