My Gateway's power supply broke which consequently fried my motherboard. When I opened up the case of the Gateway, it became quite apparent just how ridiculously overpriced it was. There was no single piece of hardware in it to justify it's price. Besides the processor, every other piece of hardware in a Gateway box is of average/below average quality. As much as Gateway likes to tote it's systems as "top of the line", they are giving their customers an average at best computer for an inflated cost.
For $1700 you could build a system with better and faster hardware than anything Gateway has to offer. However, since you mentioned that you were looking to finance the computer, I can only assume that building your own pc isn't very feasible right now.
There are a lot of local computer shops out there that may offer financing. If you are unable to find one, and you absolutely have no other choice than to buy from a name brand pc maker, it would be worth it to check out Dell. You will still pay way too much for what you are getting, but you will get a better computer for the money.
As with any computer bought from a name brand pc maker, your first order of business should be to do a complete reinstall of Windows to get rid of all those extra shit programs they pre-install at the factory.
