I got this computer today, and it's all good apart from it's sound.
It has a SoundBlaster Live! Card in it, and the speakers are fine. I tested my old computers speakers on it and it had the same problem. So I'm sure it isn't a speaker problem.
The Symptoms include:
Buzzing, scratchiness and no music being played other than an extremely tiny, meek noise half resembling the played song.
No song is played whatsoever despite changing settings and volume levels.
The SoundBlaster came with an installation CD which I’ve installed twice, and still no luck.
Make sure that the card is seated properly in the PCI slot, as that can sometimes cause the problems that you are having...
Also with regards to the sound being played whatsoever, at the top of your screen you should have a small bar that if you click on it will scroll down and give you further control options of the Live! card. Check through there as there is an additional mixer there that may be causing your problems.

thanks, I'll get the card checked out by someone who knows more than I do.
If its one of the new SB Live 5.1 cards, they have a multitude of ports on the back of the card. You might want to verify you have your speakers plugged into the right port.

I had to fuck around in the sound options for ages. I tried everything twice, or so I thought, but because it's an OS I'm not used to there was one or two options that were really well hidden. Found it and changed it after a little fucking around.
