The Last Straw...

This article here is interesting.

Curious to know how people feel about this and perhaps, if it relates, the secrecy surrounding Guantanamo Bay + this article and this article here.

I suppose that opinions will defer depending on whether or not you trust your government, but for those that do, what would it take for your government to defy that trust?

A witholding of information? Death camps? Police state? Etc.

When would you use the second amendment's gun clause against the current administration or, against any administration that you've supported in the past?

And I don't want abstractions (in 'defense of liberty' or 'justice' or something like that). What are some actual events that could occur (and could potentially occur that would send you over the top?

seems reasonable to me. I can on my own think of a number of reasons why it would be fruitful to have secrecy in that situation...surely you can too?

I trust them about as much as I trust you...or most people for that matter....which isn’t much...but I try to be realistic. Im not prepared to think that they are any more evil than you...or smug...or phil...or zoe...or Mr T just because of the job they hold.

um...no. It is sensible in some situations to withhold information...Id say in some situations (especially leading up to this war) we gave away too much information.

these would be intolerable and not comparable to Guantanamo Bay or any other current situation here in the states.

this is a whole can of worms not worth opening.

Here is a question for you…
What are you going to do about it? I mean if you really feel our government is as horrible as your posts like the above hint at and dance around what are you going to do about it?

Whatever. It would seem that the White House has gone throgh the correct proceedures in the US ie going to the federal court to get the various injunctions to allow this to proceed, so I guess you should be asking whether you trust your legal system rather than your government.

In a word - NO.

Really, 4b, what can I do about it? Do you honestly believe there's any open discourse going on about what's going on in america right now? Not really, at least, in any publicly recognized forum. So there isn't that much anyone could do, I guess. There isn't an awful lot of talk and consideration of people's postions - yours or mine, right? It's just a lot of belief and action with very little dialogue.

Take, for instance, the war in Iraq. Millions of people up in arms about it - americans included - and yet we still go to war with no clear justification. We get speeches about threats that didn't, at the time, seem to exist and are slowly becoming even less substantial as time goes by.

We don't get a dialogue about our governments decision, rather, we get told that these actions are going to happen and that they are good for both the world and for us and not to be too worried that they're going to blow up civilians because they don't matter anyway. But that peace will prevail (after we kill a bunch of people) and that we should be happy with the course that they're taking because it's the course we should all be taking anyway...

So, there isn't much to do other than what I do already. I read about it, take note, and remember that there really are people in the world dumb enough to believe whatever the news media tells them.

Did you not read the links in the opening post or what? I assume that, if you did, you don't feel as if the military being judge, jury and executioner over a nameless lot of detainee's is a bad thing?

If that's true, could you justify why you think you're right?
