Free in under 16 hours ! by Oracular_Jinx - 2005-04-23 06:32:03
That's right. I'm almost home free. I have one exam left. Despite the faculty making a rather horrific decision for me, I have almost made it. I'm almost there. I can taste the student debt quickly coming on!!!

The faculty undergrad head suggested that, as five courses in French at once is rather difficult (think it's hard studying, try a second language!) to begin, she didn't suggest any courses with "heavy reading".

Much to my dismay, this ended up resulting in a very heavy linguistics load and a ridiculous amount of history. I just don't get it. WHY ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH would you EVER want to memorize random history facts? Why not just look the information up. History doesn't go away, people! Anyway, I've never been good at it (if you haven't already guessed), so it has ended up being a hellish year for me. I've still, by some miracle, managed to keep my B average.

To top it all off, there's tomorrow's exam... in 12 hours. I have done research and readings, but now must "study" for it. The undergrad head failed to tell me that I would have to write a general exam. "Tu ne peux pas étudier pour l'examen." Like hell. I now HAVE to study for this exam. It's not just a matter of "not being able to" as she suggested. I checked past year's exams, only to find out that all of the questions consist of (you guessed it) litterature, of which I've only read a very limited number of works. So I've been looking up 17th and 18th century litterature... talking about the philosophy, and history (aha! well, it did come in a tiny bit handy), and reading online critiques.

I think I'm going to be okay. I only need a fifty on this. The exams I have next week (because I've been working my ass off) are already a sure thing. All I need tomorrow is my five-oh (and go!).

Quirky Me? by Oracular_Jinx - 2005-04-14 21:37:59
Don't deny it. We all have oddball things that we say and do that seem to make us the unique people that we are. For example, I hate saying "feet" and tend to opt for it's plural plural form: FEETS.

I also have an obsession.

I don't know where it came from, and I don't know why I live it every day, but I have a problem. I have ear issues.

I suspect it stems from the good ol' days of me being a wee lass, in the ER every couple of weeks with another ear infection. Apparently I was so bad that the nurses recognized my mom and I on the way in.

Today, I feel urges to clean my ears at least twice a day, although I try not to. They always feel itchy, or dirty, and I grab me the nearest q-tip and "clean" away.

I have been told a million times, "don't overclean - your ears need wax!" but to no avail. I am still the freakish cleaning machine I was 5 years ago. I know that I'm probably scratching them up a bit, and I know that I'm more prone to infections when I'm scraping away, but I hate ear wax. I don't know why.

I have been to the emergency room twice with the ends of q-tips stuck somewhere up my earshaft. Both times, I was instructed "don't use q-tips anymore". Q-tips 2, Jinx 0.

I have another odd habit. When I'm very stressed, I tend to try to find clogged pores on my arms, and squish. Maybe one out of five "clogged" pores are actually clogged. It must be some kind of theraputic stress relief.

I constantly start "artsy" projects, and give them my all for about two weeks, before getting bored and deciding I want to do something else. I have dabbled in painting, stained glass, drawing, writing, making jewlery, playing instruments... Because of this, I can do a lot of nifty things that some others can't. Sewing is definitely on this list. But, alas, I must admit that I will always be "jack of all trades, master of none"

I sing. A lot. And hum. Especially when I'm in a good mood. Doesn't mean I'm singing or humming anything in particular. Sometimes I'll be humming away, apparently louder than anticipated, and I'm asked "what are you humming?"

"Uh, nothin'" and I stop. The singing is fine and dandy, if you like the music. Sadly, most of the time it's hard to appreciate my renditions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat... You see the problem.

I bite my cuticles. Habit or "quirk?" I prefer "quirk" darn it! I'm sure there are a million more, but I can't think of any right now.

Sickies by Oracular_Jinx - 2005-04-11 00:34:23
I've been sick for two days straight. I blame not getting the flu shot. I was down for the count and not making too much sense, barely able to down anything, but forcing myself to drink a whole lotta water and hot gingerale before sweating my ass off under the covers. My best friends were tylenol cold and flu and some extra strength chest cough and cold syrup. It's been crap, but happily I've managed to stay awake for at least half of a normal day today. Just long enough to make breakfast, and play settlers of catan, only to fall asleep watching Escape from Alcatraz, a most excellent movie.

I am so smart! S-M-R-T by Oracular_Jinx - 2005-04-06 15:25:23
Having a great day, considering yesterday ended up being a celebration.

The day before, I got an assignment back, and managed to pull off a 75%, which is pretty good, considering I had asked her to allow me to rewrite the thing if it was a horrible mark. I'm slightly above average. Rock.

The best board meeting of the year. That's what last night was all about! After having "nothing to report" as financial director, since my job's already done for the year, I sat back and enjoyed.

We briefly discussed what was left to be done... Not much. Actually, frankly, our board of directors rather SUCKED this year, since nobody seemed very into what they were doing. I should have stuck with social director... if nothing else, we would have had more events. Too bad financial sounds so much better on a resume.

Anyway, after the meeting, the GM suggested going out for drinks. So we did. Many drinks. It started with one each, and a plate of antipesto, or however you spell it. Olives, and capers and the likes... anyway, that quickly led to a second drink, at which point the GM said "Order whatever you want, cause I'm getting the bill". He didn't attend any conventions and has a lot of cash left over for this year's budget, so we helped spend it.

You know the problem, though... when you have a few drinks, a few more sound like a good idea. Thank god I didn't get in on the scotch action. Anyway, after that, I thought "Gee. I just handed in my last paper of my university career", and thus the celebration continued.

Well... this morning wasn't quite so pretty. I sounded like I had been hit by a freight train. Three times. Minimum. But, I went to my class. I am so glad I did. I got a 90 on my paper. This officially means I can walk into the final, write my name, and leave and still pass the course. What a load off!

I'm so glad that I had a couple of smart days in a row. I'd been feeling kinda dumb lately.

That's my happy news. Yay.

Easter Bunny Brings me Chocolate. by Oracular_Jinx - 2005-03-26 04:36:13
And when he does, lucky you guys, I'll be posting a recipe for cheap chocolate bunny and drambuie fondue. It's awesome. You can buy the dollar bunnies and have them last all year for this stuff.

The GM of the co-op I live in is going to be bringing it to our next board meeting (should be on tuesday, and on monday the execs have dinner and discuss budget, so I'll remind him then).

Bad news, though. Kippy died. He was an awesome mouse though... He would stand up and greet you, and loved the people... I suspect he was always just holding out for treats, but without him and only Zorro, the cage seems pretty empty.

I'm going home tomorrow. Had to get rid of my many multicolours of hair. It actually kind of hurt... but worked out.

Anyway, I should be off to get some work done. Happy Easter, everyone. Whoever ate meat, uh, I'll see you in hell!

St Patty's Day's Over :( by Oracular_Jinx - 2005-03-18 15:14:53
I had a fun time yesterday. After going to the dollar store to get me some green, I wore green clappers on a strand of very classy plastic beads, a pair of shamrock earrings, and, most importantly, a couple o' bobbin' shamrock antennae or however you spell them. I was rockin'.

I had a most amusing night full of retardation. Glad it only comes once a year. My body wouldn't be able to handle two of these suckers!

April First is COMING by Oracular_Jinx - 2005-03-17 05:56:57
I just thought I'd point that out.

Unfortunately because of this, I can't take anyone on the site too seriously.

Asian food market Purple Hair Monkey by Oracular_Jinx - 2005-03-17 05:43:31
Well, except for the monkey, it's all news to me.

First of all, I'm happy to report that I *WENT* to my class this morning. Eight thirty and all. I'm miserable to report that most of the class was spent listening to 1950s and 60s music from Quebec. Some of it was rather painfull, in a not so Piaff kinda way.

I finally put my papers through so that I can get my *sobby* last paycheck before I find a real job. Fortunately, as I made so little money, they won't be taxing me, which means I GET MONEY NOW. Now is good, being it's my last cheque.

I went to the Asian food market. It was superyummydelicious. I bought insta-tea (this tea, whitener, and sugar in one I guess), soy drink, jelly things, honey stick things, and chestnut things. It's all good stuff.

In preparation for tomorrow, I stopped by the dollar store, and bought many green things for myself and friends. A bowtie for one, a flashing clover pin for another. It's swell. I got myself some boppin' clovers for my head. I figure they're A1 class all the way, baby.

I have purple hair now. It's darker than the pink. Looks pretty good too.

Another Week bites the dust. by Oracular_Jinx - 2005-03-14 13:29:32
My house is gross. Disgusting. Vomitous. Literally. There was a "house party" last night, which didn't involve the willingness of all of the house. The smell of puke wafted from downstairs all the way up the stairs. You can't walk without your feet sticking to the ground. It's bad.

On top of this, I'm in a mood and a half. For no apparent reason (other than PMS, possibly), I am suddenly stressed and upset and feeling miserable. Yay being female.

Finally I slept on my shoulder... very wrong. It kills in the joint now. I've been applying heat to it, which only barely helps.

I'm hoping Monday will start a new week off better!

05/03/06 JL Comes to K-town by Oracular_Jinx - 2005-03-06 15:44:59
It's about damn time. I've missed him enough to have made him all kinds of nifty goodies... a painting (still needs to be framed somehow) a wallet, a pair of boxers, and a clock!). I still have to clean today, and make welcome back cookies or something, as well as going to a&p. My hair is currently pink and purple. It was pink and blue and purple and blonde, but it looked too... dirty. Now it looks pretty fun.

Anyway, My christmoose, who's name has yet to be determined, but has been called "Clarice, mighty (moose), Molly, and Bullwinkle, is awesome. Jeb, it couldn't have come at a better time!

Righty-o. Off I go.
